Teaching Practice
Procedures of Teaching
During my teaching practice, I followed a structured lesson plan similar to Ma’am Sarah’s approach. I started with a warm greeting and a brief review of the previous lesson. Then, I introduced the new topic using PowerPoint slides, providing clear explanations and relevant real-life examples. To keep students engaged, I included short exercises. Lastly, I assessed their understanding through oral recitations and written quizzes. I also revised my Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP) based on my consultation with Ma’am Sarah. I did the mentoring section with Ma`am Christy Angnas, one of the teachers in Capiz State University Pontevedra Campus.
Time Management and Organizing Activities
Managing time effectively was
crucial in ensuring the lesson flowed smoothly. I allocated specific time slots
for each segment: introduction (5 minutes), lesson explanation (15 minutes),
student activities (20 minutes), discussion of answers (10 minutes), and
assessment (10 minutes). To keep students engaged, I used a combination of
quick activities and discussions while ensuring that each task was completed
within the given time frame.
Problem-Solving
During the lesson, I encountered some challenges, such as students struggling to understand new vocabulary and technical terms. One particular issue arose during the “Same Word, Different World” motivation activity. Many students found it difficult to guess the correct answer. To address this, I provided additional clues and guided students with leading questions to help them think critically. I also encouraged collaborative thinking by allowing them to discuss their ideas in pairs before answering. By offering more context and scaffolding their thought process, I was able to help students engage more actively in the activity and gain a better understanding of word meanings.
Classroom Management
Maintaining discipline and
ensuring active participation were essential aspects of classroom management. I
established clear rules at the beginning of the lesson, encouraged students to
stay focused, and used positive reinforcement to keep them motivated. I also
managed class discussions by allowing equal opportunities for students to speak
while keeping the lesson on track.
